1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
“This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not…

Oh, for shame! I haven’t blogged in such a long time!
Lately, my head just hasn’t been in it. For a very long time, I liked blogging and spending entire days writing fiction. Unfortunately - or perhaps very fortunately- something shifted in my mind and my writing has taken on a new incarnation.
I’ve been spending some time working on my article writing (I guess you could sort of call it Journalism…sorta, ha!) and I’ve been working on some non-fiction ideas, and finally, I’ve been spending my days (and nights and weekends) working on a business venture with the husband. MPISA is an apparel company for creatives, for which I am the copywriter, insights and research director, logistics manager, administrative assistant, customer service rep, and a bunch of other things that do not technically have titles yet.
Today is four months until my 30th birthday and I guess more than ever, I have been thinking about getting older and what it means to have a truly happy and successful life. And then I happened across this lovely blog called, Advanced Style. Street Styles for the over 80 crowd! How revolutionary! I’m hooked!
When I think about what I would like my life to look like over the next 60+ years (hopefully!) I suppose that the best I can hope for is a positive outlook, something to always look forward to, timeless and elegant style and a very specific handsome fellow with whom to share it all.
So, here are some tips from Joyce! I love this lady - she is very ladylike, indeed!
Is it too early to wish you all a Happy Weekend?! Well, Happy Life, for now…

A while ago, I started writing a few notes and an informal outline for a new piece of fiction. The premise is about a kid with ADHD who doesn’t find a true diagnosed until he is well into his twenties. He is essentially written off by his parents and teachers as a lost cause simply because he isn’t able to learn at the same pace or in the same way as his peers. However, the curious thing about this kid is his ability to express his world through art. His cognitive deficits in certain areas have allowed many lazy adults to label and discard him. It isn’t until he becomes friends with someone who understands his mind - someone who see that despite his deficits, he is practically a genius in other, less recognized categories of intelligence.
The working title of this project is: Another Dead Duck.
This manuscript is sort of loosely based on a real person’s story.
For those of you who follow my ramblings, you may recall that I have been considering a non-fiction piece, perhaps a series of profiles of unknown people who have extraordinary stories to tell. But how broad is that? That’s certainly not going to interest publishers. “Hey, I’ve got a great story about intersting people!” Yeah, I can see the rejection letters sitting in my mailbox now!
And then suddenly, the premise of Another Dead Duck and this non-fiction concept converged in my mind.
Off the top of my head, I can think of a hand full of people who have either been saved by the arts in some way or found solace in art during difficult life situations. Also, what about all the people who have major cognitive or emotional deficits, but thrive through their art?!
What is it about the brain’s activity that can allow someone to experience such high cognitive functioning in one area and conversely such deficits in another? I’m fascinated!
I think I’m onto something…

Last night the husband and I watched Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It was fine - I certainly don’t need to see it again and the final five minutes were a huge waste (and borderline comical) - but it wasn’t a terrible movie, per se.
Although, one thing I did find interesting about the movie was the way the filmmakers chose to use The Carousel Waltz from the Rogers and Hammerstein production, Carousel. The instrumental tune lingered, almost hauntingly, over a few scenes. It made me wonder if the filmmakers had drawn some sort of subliminal parallel between Wall Street and being on a carousel? Also, Carousel is not exactly a happy story. Could the song be an indicator of bad things to come, I wondered…
First, you can never go wrong with Rogers and Hammerstein, in my opinion! Genius always! Love it!
Second, Carousel hasn’t been on Broadway since the mid-90s and even though it was in production in London’s West End in 2008, I really doubt the majority of movie goers had any idea of the possible connotations of the song.
Third, perhaps I think way too much about nothing. Ding-ding-ding!
When I mentioned this to the husband he said, “I’m impressed! You know everything!” And if by everything we mean, useless nonsense that will only be helpful when watching a stupid movie or when playing trivial pursuit, well then yes, I do know everything.
Everything about nothing.
Have a listen - it’s a beautiful instrumental! I really wanted to post the Prologue version from the 1993 London Cast Recording because I believe it is the very best recording. However, Tumblr seems to think the file is too large. Boo-hiss! This was one of my favorite cds as a kid! Beautiful! Anyway, we will have to settle for the inferior version, which is the original Broadway recording.
Happy Weekend, people!

Forgive me Tumblr, for I have sinned. It’s been 10 days since my last blog entry.
I’m ashamed to say that I have no original idea for a blog entry lately. I’ve been so busy working on this big profile (blah, you know, real work) that I haven’t had the time to think about Tumblr. Oh, the horror!
Perhaps it’s selective writer’s block, but if anyone has any idea, suggestions or questions - now would be the time to send them over.
Happy Weekend, people!
